VIETNAM AND CUBA AFFIRM THE SPECIAL FRIENDSHIP AND COMPREHENSIVE COOPERATION

General Secretary, President To Lam, his spouse and a high-ranking delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam paid a State visit to Cuba from September 25-27 at the invitation of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

This visit by General Secretary, President To Lam has a very special significance in the context of Vietnam and Cuba preparing to celebrate the 65^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), demonstrating the high regard of the Vietnamese Party, State and People for the traditional solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between two countries.

At the conversation, General Secretary, President To Lam respectfully thanked the First Secretary, President of Cuba, the leaders and people of Cuba for their deep sentiments, thoughtful and respectful reception, and the comradely brotherly affection, which deeply demonstrated the loyal and special relationship between the two Parties and two countries, as President Ho Chi Minh once said: “Vietnam and Cuba are thousands of miles apart, but the hearts of the peoples are as close as brothers”.

The General Secretary, President affirmed that Vietnam always pays attention to and follows the Cuba’s development; highly appreciated the efforts of Cuban Party, State and People to overcome difficulties, continue to implement the results of the 8^th Congress resolution and the process of updating the socio-economic development model. He affirmed the consistent stance of the Party, State and People of Vietnam to unite and support the just struggle of the Cuban people, to demand the lifting of the blockade and embargo against Cuba, and to remove Cuba from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Comrade To Lam also expressed his belief that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, with the glorious history and solid foundation of the Cuban Revolution, the fraternal Cuban people will soon overcome the current difficult period and successfully achieve the set goals.

First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated the great and historic achievements of the Party, State and People of Vietnam in the Doi Moi process over the past 40 years, bringing Vietnam’s foundation, potential, position and international prestige to unprecedented heights. He also highly appreciated the theoretical and practical experience in socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam.

Also on this special occasion, General Secretary, President To Lam informed First Secretary, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez about the Party, State and people of Vietnam presenting 10,000 tonnes of rice to the Cuban people; the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam presenting 500 computers to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and some Vietnamese localities presenting some gifts to the Cuban Workers’ Center and Cuban people.

On this occasion, Comrade To Lam was honored to receive the Jose Marti Medal - the highest award of the Cuban State for his outstanding contributions to developing the solidarity and friendship between the two Parties, States and Peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

The senior leaders of the two Parties and countries also decided to make 2025 the “Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year” with practical commemorative activities, towards the 65^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 2025.
